WYOMING COUNTY/Tonawanda man transported by Mercy Flight after colliding with a stopped vehicle

One driver was transported by Mercy Flight following a motorcycle versus car collision in the
Town of Arcade.
On October 2, 2024, at approximately 6:05p.m., the Wyoming County 911 Center received a call
reporting a motorcycle versus car collision on Route 98 in the Town of Arcade.

Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene where they located a 2019 Nissan Altima and a 1993 Honda motorcycle. Following investigation, it was determined the 2019 Nissan Altima
was northbound on Route 98, and stopped in traffic while waiting to turn westbound onto
Genesee Road. Evidence at the scene and statements by the drivers, indicate the 1993 Honda
motorcycle was also northbound on Route 98. The motorcycle operator failed to see the
2019 Nissan Altima in time and drove into the rear of the stopped vehicle. The motorcycle
operator was partially pinned under the rear of the Nissan, and he was flown by Mercy Flight to
Erie County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan Altima was not injured, and no charges are expected. The driver of the
Honda motorcycle, Edward P. Schunk, 41, of Tonawanda, NY, was found to be at fault for
the collision, and was also found to have a non-driver identification card only, with fourteen [14]
active suspensions and/or revocations.

Various vehicle and traffic charges against Schunk are pending.
