Genesee County Health Department to provide radon training for contractors, realtors and code enforcement officers

Press release

Both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) have identified Genesee County as having a high average indoor radon screening level greater than 4 units (pico curies per liter). Radon can build up to dangerous levels in homes, both old and new. “Radon enters homes through cracks in the foundation, basement walls, floors, sump pumps, and other areas,” stated Darren Brodie, Environmental Health Director for Genesee and Orleans County Health Departments (GO Health). “Any house has the potential for radon to enter and linger. That is why training contractors, realtors and code enforcement officers about the risk of radon is important.”

On Friday, November 15th from 1:00pm-4:00pm, the Genesee County Health Department will be hosting George Schambach, the Vice President of the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologies, Inc., and President/Owner of Professional Home Inspection Service to implement a training for all contractors, realtors and code enforcement officers. This training will be held at Genesee County Building 2 on 3837 West Main Street Road, Batavia, NY 14020.

· Health Risks of Radon

· Radon Abatement
