Ted is the 2024 Champion at Batavia Downs
34 hardy Dachshunds and their owners braved the damp rainy weather and wet track conditions to participate in the Annual Family Fun Day/Wiener Dog Races at Batavia Downs on Sunday afternoon.
After four heats, two heats of 8 dogs and two heats of 9 dogs, a Championship heat with four dogs took place at 2:00p.m.
Ted, a 4-year-old from Kenmore, has been racing the past three years.
“Ted just loves racing, he’s raced here before and at Clarence Town Park he won #1 twice there, he loves it,” says Noel Schmitt, owner. “This is his first win at Batavia, he was third last year here,” says Bill Schmitt, owner.
Noel and Bill say playing chuckit ball has been Ted’s training over the years and they plan to return to Batavia Downs next year for the Wiener Dog races.
“It’s so much fun looking at all the dogs and how much different they all look and how they react,” says Noel. The Schmitt’s say they plan on returning next year to hold the Championship title with Ted.
Any words of advice for someone that plans on coming next year to race against Ted?
“C’mon bring it on,” says Noel.
