PIN POINTS/Warsaw lefty Kevin Gray Jr. rolls 300, 800

Kevin Gray Jr. of Warsaw made the most of his “night out” this week when he added a pair of honor scores to his resume in the Thursday Owls League at Rose Garden Bowl in Bergen.

The accomplished left-hander rolled a 300 game and 800 series on lanes 1-2 while bowling for the Gray’s Gang team along with his father, Kevin Sr., and brother, Scott.

He started with the 300 and added 234 and 266 for the 800 series.

When asked how many perfect games and 800 series he had, Gray said he wasn’t really sure.

“I’ve never been one to track my honor scores,” said Gray, who does keep on an eye on numbers as an accounting clerk for Mid-South. “League bowling is a night out with dad, Scott and friends.”

Pressed to guess, he came up with about 10 United States Bowling Congress-certified 300 game and three 800 series.

This latest one was really tough as he needed eight strikes in a row after starting with a strike and two spares in the third game. He knocked down seven pins on the final ball for 800 on the nose.

Gray, 43, said he used a Hammer Black Pearl ball – the first time he recorded a perfect game with a urethane ball. He said he wished to dedicate the honor scores to the late Al Vlietstra, a former teammate and GRUSBC Hall of Famer, who passed away in July 2023.

Elsewhere around the Genesee Region USBC, Steve O’Dell posted 263-222-267—752 in the Thursday Firemen’s League at StrikeForce Lanes in Oakfield.
