On Tuesday, October 29th, teacher Charlie Voorhees had some help installing a new CNC router for the Batavia Technology Department.
BHS has been working feverishly to improve the opportunities available to students by making some major upgrades. Learning about and operating tools of the trade is something that Voorhees is hopeful will continue to grow. Support came from our community neighbors, Tim Wolcott and Howard Wilson from Amada Tool came over to advise and lend a hand with the installation.
Located here in Batavia, Amada Tool is a manufacturer with over 50 years of experience. They serve markets like, Aerospace, Air Conditioning, Electronics, Medical Equipment and much more. Amada Tool uses machinery like CNC routers every day.
Charlie Voorhees is looking forward to all the projects his students will be able to produce with this new machine. From signs to Adirondack chairs to creating specialized parts for robots for Tech Wars. Charlie Voorhees and his class won 1st place in the 2024 Tech Wars competition. This new machine is opening up all sorts of possibilities to the class.
Tim and Howard were here to be of service because they are excited about the possibility of perspective employees getting the chance to use tools/machines early on. Getting these devices in the hands of students now can foster an interest in the field, and that interest can lead to careers later. What better opportunity for Batavia High then to have two individuals who are leaders in the field, oversee, and assist in the installation of a new state of the art piece of equipment.
The purchase of the CNC router was possible through a donation from Genesee County Economic Development Center. BHS is grateful that we have community members who care enough to share their expertise for the benefit of the students.
