Wyoming County Community Health Systems announce Dialysis Clinic Closure

Press release

November 5, 2024, Wyoming County Community Health System (WCCHS) announced today that the dialysis clinic located at 11 Murray Hill Drive in Mt. Morris, NY will be closing due to ongoing staffing challenges and financial losses.

The dialysis clinic has six chairs located within the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and was started in 2022. However, recruiting and retaining specially trained dialysis staff has been challenging. Further, the clinic has lost more than $2M in County funding since 2022. For these reasons, WCCHS has submitted a closure plan with the New York State Department of Health and will assist in finding alternative treatment locations for current dialysis patients.

“Operating a small dialysis clinic in a rural location has proven to be extremely challenging. Finding and retaining sufficient qualified staff to ensure safe patient care is our most critical priority. To compound matters the reimbursement for the clinic is not sufficient to cover operating costs, which has resulted in more than $2M in County funding loses since 2022.” stated CEO David Kobis. “It is unfortunate, but WCCHS cannot sustain this level of financial loss year after year. We will assist in finding alternative treatment locations for all of our current patients.”
