A fire at the Knitting Mill Apartments at 55 Elm Street in Perry damaged six apartments early Sunday afternoon.
At 12:42 p.m., fire crews from Perry, Perry Center, Silver Springs, Castile, and Warsaw along with an ambulance from Perry and Wyoming County EMS responded to the scene.
According to Wyoming County Emergency Services, the cause of the fire was overheated cooking oil on an electric stove causing $75,000 in damages.
A male occupant of the apartment of origin suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns and is being treated at the Wyoming County Community Hospital.
The fire was contained to the apartment of origin. This complex has 42 apartments and all occupants had
to be evacuated. Six apartments were deemed un-inhabitable due to water damage from an activated sprinkler head. Some of the dislocated tenants were able to be moved into empty apartments, while others will be staying with family members until cleanup can be completed. All other tenants were able to return to their apartments.
