GENESEE COUNTY/Man charged after high-speed pursuit and crash involving a patrol vehicle

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department was involved in a high-speed pursuit that started in the City of Batavia near Park Road and ended in the Town of Oakfield on Friday, November 22, 2024.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle for traffic violations, but the vehicle fled once deputies initiated their emergency lights. Deputies pursued the vehicle on Rt. 63 into the Village of Oakfield, where it crashed after hitting a deputy’s patrol vehicle in the parking lot of Oakfield Central School District.

Several objects in the parking lot were damaged during the incident. The driver, Shawn P. O’Connor, 35, was taken into custody without incident.

O’Connor, no address provided, is charged with criminal mischief 2nd degree, a class D felony, unlawful fleeing 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor and reckless endangerment 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor.

O’Connor was issued 17 multiple uniform traffic tickets and was held for Genesee County CAP Court.

More charges are expected to be filed pending an investigation.
