GENESEE COUNTY/Encore 2024 at GCC sees a big turnout at the Forum for annual fundraising drive for student scholarships

The Genesee Community College Foundation welcomed almost 200 guests to the GCC Forum on Saturday evening for a night of fine dining and holiday music at the annual Encore holiday gala.

This year’s theme was, “Twelve Days of Christmas,” celebrates the traditions of the holiday season and features a special holiday concert program choreographed by the Genesee Symphony Orchestra.

“It’s a tradition that really has enriched the community and supports students, but it’s also a fundraiser friend raiser to bring folks from the GCC community, and the corporate community together and we’re excited to host a nice dinner and show featuring the GSO,” says Justin Johnson, Executive Director of GCC Foundation.

For over 30 years, Encore has been one of the biggest fundraisers for the GCC Foundation which helps provide students with funding for student scholarships at Genesee Community College.

“A lot of students face struggles, when we say scholarships, people think tuition and, in many cases, it is tuition, but it can also be tuition fees, meal plans, residential life, childcare supports, or technology fees. A lot of students are academically gifted but have other challenges in their life that prevent them from completing college.”

Tompkins Financial Corporation was the Sponsor for Encore 2024.

Students from the GCC Fashion Program, Visual Merchandiser and Merchandisers put on a display using materials from their trip to Montreal this past semester. The wedding dresses were provided by The Wedding Dress in Geneseo.

“Students work really hard and they’re here after the campus has closed for the semester, just to set up for this event,” says Laura Taylor, Associate Professor/Fashion Business.

“We enjoy getting the feedback here. Our Fashion Show is May 3rd, and the theme is “Masterpiece Unfolding”, and is based on art movements.”
