PIN POINTS/Bowlers ‘double’ their efforts at Genesee Region centers

Doubles tournaments were in the spotlight over the past two weeks at three Genesee Region USBC bowling centers — Medina Lanes, Le Roy Legion Lanes and Mancuso Bowling Center in Batavia.

Genesee Region USBC No-Tap Doubles

Morgan Allis of Medina and Andy Ritz of Lockport combined for a 1,675 three-game score to win the Dec. 14-15 tournament’s $600 first prize.

Ritz recorded an 812 series (nine or 10 pins on the first ball equals a strike) and Allis posted a 773 series, including a 300 game, for 1,587 scratch. They received 90 pins handicap.

Two teams tied at 1,664 and will split the second and third place money of $316 and $200.

They were the Oakfield father-son duo of Jeremy (801 scratch) and Peyton Yasses (803 scratch) and the team of Ricky Daniels of Albion (818 scratch) and Tim Talbot of Barker (807 scratch). Both Daniels and Talbot registered perfect games.

Thirteen of the 52 entries cashed. The Genesee Region USBC contributed $200 plus a portion of the tournament expense fee to the prize fund.

Remaining cashers are as follows:

4 – $146 — Naomi Hyde/Mickey Hyde, Le Roy, 1,654.

5 – $138 — Gavin Lawlis/Ian Lawlis, Batavia, 1,647.

6 – $132 — Shannon Popovich, Barker/Austin Carpenter, Middleport, 1,639

7 – $122 — Dan Daniels, Albion/Tim Talbot, Barker, 1,638

8 – $ 116 — Samantha Hyde/Tom Rohl, Le Roy, 1,613

9 – $110 — John Wolff/Bill Neubert, Batavia, 1,582

10 – $106 — Juliana Allis/Mike Schepis, Medina, 1,557

11 – $98 — Marc Wilder/Gary Kuchler, Oakfield, 1,546

12 – $92 — Brandon Luce/Haley Luce, Oakfield, 1,525

13 – $86 — Zach Moden, Medina/Frank Jarkiewicz, Byron, 1,523.

Legion Lanes Scratch Doubles

Scott Culp of Honeoye Falls and Adam Philp of Batavia combined to capture the $800 top prize in the Legion Lanes Scratch Doubles Tournament sponsored by Bubba’s Landscape.

Culp and Philp defeated Joe Dinardo and George Szczublewski of Buffalo in the Baker-style finals. Second place paid $500.

Local teams cashing for $160 each were Chase Cone and Geoff Harloff of Batavia and Aaron Philp of Le Roy and Matt Slocum of Perry.

The tourney drew 32 teams.

Genesee Region USBC Youth Doubles

Twenty-two teams participated in the GR Youth Doubles event on Dec. 8 at Mancuso’s

In the A Division (team average 250 and over), Liam Beagle and Hudson Klein of Le Roy Legion Lanes placed first with 1,340 to win a $100 scholarship and trophy each.

In the B Division (team average 249 and under), Bentley Forrester and Dom Forrester of Perry Bowling Center finished on top with 1,251, also winning a $100 scholarship and trophy each.

Other trophy winners were as follows:

A Division — Hunter Clark/Gavin Slocum, Perry, 1,323; Daniel Neus/Matthew Neus, Mount Morris, 1,289.

B Division — Wyatt Bourg/Kayson Johnson, Mancuso’s, 1,200; Matthew LaPiana/Gianna LaPiana, Mount Morris, 1,173.

GR SCRATCH MEMORIAL SET FOR JAN. 4-5

The 71st Genesee Region USBC Scratch Memorial Tournament is scheduled for Jan. 4-5 at StrikeForce Lanes (Rusty Rail Bar & Grill) in Oakfield.

First prize, based on 80 entries, is $1,000, with one in five bowlers cashing. Entry fee is $60.

Four-game qualifying squad times are 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 4 and 10 a.m. Jan. 5. Semifinals and finals will follow the Sunday morning squad. A “Challenge” oil pattern will be used.
