Press release
Le Roy, NY – January 5, 2025 – Le Roy Ambulance Service is thrilled to announce the successful outcome of our recent direct mailer fundraiser, raising $29,063 to date. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our community, and this critical funding is already being used to cover essential costs, such as lifesaving medical supplies, vehicle maintenance, training, and payroll.
Recently, we have received some questions about why we need to fundraise when we receive tax funding, and we wanted to take a few moments to explain our situation. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit ambulance service, we respond to approximately 1,500 requests for service annually. Despite receiving some tax funding from both the Town of Le Roy and Genesee County, for which we are extremely thankful, this contribution remains supplemental and does not fully cover the costs of operating a 24/7 paid service.
Our financial situation is challenging, primarily due to inadequate reimbursement rates from Medicare and Medicaid, which cover approximately 60% of our patients. These reimbursements fall significantly short of covering the actual costs of providing care. By law, we cannot bill patients for the difference. Additionally, we experience difficulties and delays in receiving payments from insurance companies and individual patients.
This creates a deficit that our current tax funding alone cannot fill. While the support from our local municipalities certainly helps, it is projected that we will still face a significant shortfall in 2025, particularly as we confront rising operational and capital expenses. Without the continued generosity of our community, we would not be able to meet these financial gaps and continue offering the high-quality care that you rely on.
Your support through fundraisers like this one is absolutely essential. Thanks to donations, we are able to keep our doors open, maintain our vehicles, and ensure that our dedicated team of career EMS professionals can continue to serve you, day or night, 365 days per year.
We would like to thank everyone who has stepped up to generously support our operation! Your contributions, no matter the size, make a significant impact in keeping Le Roy Ambulance Service ready to respond to emergencies and save lives. Together, we can ensure that our EMS agency remains strong, resilient, and ready to serve the Le Roy community and surrounding areas for years to come.
