Pike and Castile Fire Departments responded to a Chicken Coop fire at 6536 East Koy Road in the Town of Genesee Falls early Sunday morning.
When fire crew arrived on scene at 3:00a.m., the 10’x20′ chicken coop was fully involved. The fire was discovered by the homeowner. 40 of the 45 chickens were lost in the fire.
According to Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, the cause was accidental, involving a heat lamp. Damages are estimated at $3,000. Fire crews were on scene for about 1 hour.
