Independent Living of the Genesee Region (ILGR) wants to help young people with disabilities and their family members to learn about their rights, and gain advocacy skills. The three sessions, covering different material, will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on three Thursdays throughout February: 2/13, 2/20 and 2/27, in the Kirby Room of the Hoag Library, 134 South Main Street, Albion, NY 14411.
A light meal will be provided. However, space is limited, and Registration is only open to Residents of Genesee and Orleans Counties, so those interested should sign up with April Fearby at 585-815-8501, extension 401, or email her at afearby@wnyil.org, as soon as possible.
WHAT IS COVERED?
Learn about your rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974, the Americans with disabilities Act of 1990, New York State Education Laws, Individual Education Plans, and more.
Learn to advocate viacommunication, organization, and techniques that will prepare you for education meetings and advocating for your family’s needs.
Tools to take home:
Individuals who attend all three sessions will take home a FREE Advocacy “Toolbox” (Bag), that has the information we review as well as two books from Wrights Law, and other organizational items that will assist you and give you a head start on advocating for your child or youth!
