Larcenies from vehicles are often crimes of opportunity, and by taking a few simple steps, you can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim:
Lock Your Vehicle: Always lock your vehicle doors, even when parked in your driveway or in a secured parking lot. This is the simplest and most effective way to prevent theft.
Keep Valuables Out of Sight: Do not leave any valuables such as purses, laptops, phones, or wallets in plain sight. This will make your vehicle a less appealing target for thieves.
Park in Well-Lit Areas: Whenever possible, park your vehicle in well-lit areas, especially at night. This can help deter potential thieves and make it easier to identify any suspicious activity.
Do Not Keep Spare Keys in the Vehicle: Avoid keeping spare keys in your vehicle, as this can make it easy for thieves to steal your vehicle or its contents.
Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice any suspicious activity or individuals lurking around vehicles, report it to the Batavia Police Department immediately.
