Megan Palone needs your help. She is looking for a living liver donor.
In June 2023, Palone was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that metastasized to her liver. Her colon cancer has been completely removed from her colon, but due to lesions and chemotherapy, her liver has become inoperable.
“I am very hopeful and determined to beat this. Unfortunately, there is not nearly enough liver organ donors to accommodate the number of people who need a liver, so my family and I are looking to find individuals who might be interested in being a living donor by donating a section of their liver,” says Palone.
According to Palone, a living donor transplant procedure consists of taking half a healthy liver from a donor to replace her cancerous liver; that portion of the donor’s liver will regenerate in 4 – 8 weeks, and the new liver will grow to full size for Palone. There is no medical cost to the donor.
The criteria needed to be Palone’s donor are:
• 18 – 60 years of age
• Blood type A or O
• Male or female
• Be in good general health with a BMI of 30 or less.
The liver transplantation will take place at the University of Rochester at Strong Memorial Hospital.
