WYOMING COUNTY/Perry man accused of attempting to cash a fraudulent check

PERRY, NY- Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of a Perry resident on charges following an investigation involving a fraudulent check. 

On March 19, 2025 at approximately 02:27pm, Officer D. Spink was dispatched to the M&T Bank located 43 South Main Street in the Village of Perry for a male who was allegedly trying to cash a fraudulent check.

Upon speaking bank staff, it was determined that the suspect, 48-year-old Daniel E. Sauer from Eden, New York, tried to cash a check totaling $9,812.53 that had already been cashed. The checked appeared to be altered and alerted bank officials to call police.

Sauer was transported to Perry Police Department where he was placed under arrest for Penal Law 170.25 Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the second degree, A class D felony. 

Sauer was processed at Perry Police Department and was released per NYS bail reform laws and is to appear in Perry Village Court on 04/15/2025 on the charge.
