Robert Fix, five firefighters are going through training to be certified.<\/p>\n<p>The training is possible due to a $200,000 grant the City of Batavia received two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the creek was too shallow to do training. This spring with the heavy rains the creek is at a perfect level.<\/p>\n<p>Fix says that 15-17 swift water technicians will allow the department to have 4 crew members each shift with experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now we are training to get right in the water, where as before we were only able to stay onshore,&#8221; says Fix<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Batavia Fire Department held a swift water training class on the Tonawanda Creek Tuesday morning.
