Angel R. Colon, 49, an inmate at Wende Correctional Facility, was denied parole after an initial parole hearing on May 18, 2022. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Colon is serving 25 years to life after being convicted of murder 2nd degree in the death of 7-year-old Samantha Zaldivar in 1997.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 23,1997, after a\u00a03-month search for Samantha, she was found buried in a field about 1000 feet from her home after a farmer plowing the field located her body. Samantha went missing from her home in February of 1997. Colon was the live-in boyfriend of Samantha’s mother, Rachel Stra, and Colon was the father to Samantha’s two other siblings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August of 1998, Colon admitted to killing Samantha and sexually abusing her in the family’s home in Hermitage, NY. He was originally facing a 19-count indictment and possibly the death penalty. Samantha’s mother also pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge of hindering prosecution and received a conditional discharge. She had originally faced two felony charges, hindering the prosecution and tampering with evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
