An explosive noise coming from a repair shop complex at Reisdorf Brothers at 1830 Perry road in the town of Sheldon on November 3, 2022, alerted a nearby resident who saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure, the resident called 9-1-1 to report the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The North Java fire department and Chief along with an employee, applied multiple fire extinguishers on the fire which helped slow the spread until fire trucks arrived on scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Firefighters battled the spread of the fire to the contents of the shop and then into a heavily corrugated steel walls and ceilings. This slowed firefighting efforts down as multiple pieces of steel had to be cut and removed to access hot spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Estimated loss was at $300,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No one was injured and fire crews from North Java, Strykersville, Sheldon and Varysburg remained on scene for about 6 hours. Also assisting at the scene, Wyoming County Emergency Services and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services says the cause was an electrical short on a fork truck parked inside the repair shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
