Seven fire companies responded to a barn fire at 3325 Bartz Road in the Town of Sheldon late Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, a 60’x130′ single story pole barn which contained a repair shop and a large amount of hay, caught fire about 4:00p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The barn is owned by Fontaine Homestead LLC. The barn is a total loss. Damages are estimated at $500,000. Multiple pieces of farm equipment inside the barn were also destroyed in the blaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One family member was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital for smoke inhalation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire crews from Sheldon, Strykersville, N. Java, Arcade, Bliss, Harris Corners and Varysburg were on scene for about six hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
