Eric Bolles with the Batavia Police Department were the first to arrive on scene and were able to locate the children at a residence next door. One child was about 11 months and the other about 8 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Police say they are not sure if the kids were next door during the fire or escaped the fire and went next door.<\/p>\n<p>Sgt. Bolles says Officer Perkins attempted to enter the residence, but the smoke was too thick.<\/p>\n<p>City Fire was able to get the smokey blaze under control quickly. A female living at the residence was transported to UMMC to be checked out.<\/p>\n<p>The upper apartment was unoccupied.<\/p>\n<p>The home is not livable tonight and Red Cross was going to be contacted for the woman and the children living there.<\/p>\n<p>City Fire is looking into the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One person was sent to UMMC to be checked out after a house fire at 35 Maple street in the City of Batavia early Friday morning.
