Main street.<\/p>\n<p>After the dish washer walked up to the entryway, the window had blown out according to Doug Chappius, owner of the Elba Diner.<\/p>\n<p>That is when fire companies from Genesee and Orleans County were dispatched to help the Elba Fire Department put out the runaway fire.<\/p>\n<p>Heale says when he arrived on scene flames were coming from the front first floor windows.<\/p>\n<p>Crews used hydrants that were just recently installed on S. Main street and tankers were requested for more water.<\/p>\n<p>Heale says it was a defensive attack.<\/p>\n<p>The roof eventually caved in and excavation equipment was requested. The building will be taken down as it is a hazard.<\/p>\n<p>Brockport Fire was also requested to the scene as was Wyoming Correctional.<\/p>\n<p>The owners of the Stumblin&#8217; Inn, Stephen and Jim Goff, were not injured in the blaze and were able to get out before firefighters arrived on scene.<\/p>\n<p>They will be staying with friends.<\/p>\n<p>Elba Fire will remain on scene for most of the day and will be investigating the cause and origin of the fire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It started as a stage coach stop sometime in the 1800&#8217;s, it has served as a dance hall and a party stop for many over the years.
