A person of interest in the July 24th beating death of Ray Morgan on Liberty street is still being held in jail at this time.<\/p>\n

Batavia Police are still awaiting DNA results from the State Police Lab, according to Chief Shawn Heubusch and the person of interest in the case is still being held in jail on an unrelated matter.<\/p>\n

NYS Parole responded to the boarding house for parolees at 111 Liberty street the day after the murder and picked up several parolees who lived there. Heubusch says there are no local charges as of yet for anyone who was picked up.<\/p>\n

At approximately 11:15 pm, July 24, 2018, officers from the Batavia Police Department responded to 111 Liberty Street for the report of a physical altercation occurring in one of the rooms. The first officers on scene located a male in one of the rooms, 47 year old Ray Morgan, who had significant facial injuries and injuries to the back of the head. EMS responded to the scene, however Morgan succumbed to his injuries at the scene.<\/p>\n

A possible suspect description was obtained, and Officers canvassed the area for evidence with the assistance of State Police K-9\u2019s.
\nThe suspect reportedly escaped through a second story window and was last seen running north on Liberty street wearing a green shirt and light grey pants.<\/p>\n

Police say that this was not a random act of violence and that the suspect and victim knew each other.<\/p>\n
