As part of our ongoing efforts to prevent crime, we would like to remind residents and visitors to take necessary precautions to protect their vehicles and valuables from larcenies.

Larcenies from vehicles are often crimes of opportunity, and by taking a few simple steps, you can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

Lock Your Vehicle: Always lock your vehicle doors, even when parked in your driveway or in a secured parking lot. This is the simplest and most effective way to prevent theft.

Keep Valuables Out of Sight: Do not leave any valuables such as purses, laptops, phones, or wallets in plain sight. This will make your vehicle a less appealing target for thieves.

Park in Well-Lit Areas: Whenever possible, park your vehicle in well-lit areas, especially at night. This can help deter potential thieves and make it easier to identify any suspicious activity.

Do Not Keep Spare Keys in the Vehicle: Avoid keeping spare keys in your vehicle, as this can make it easy for thieves to steal your vehicle or its contents.

Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice any suspicious activity or individuals lurking around vehicles, report it to the Batavia Police Department immediately.

By following these simple tips, you can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of larceny from a vehicle. Remember, it’s always better to be proactive and take steps to protect your property.

If you have any information about larcenies from vehicles or have been a victim of such a crime, please contact the Batavia Police Department at 585-345-6350. Together, we can work to create a safer and more secure community for everyone.

Sourced via CRIMEWATCH®: https://crimewatch.net/us/ny/genesee/batavia-pd/138661/post/protect-your-vehicle-and-valuables-tips-prevent-larcenies

Press release The Batavia Police Department is committed to keeping our community safe and secure.
