As our children head back to school, the Batavia Police Department wants to remind everyone of the importance of school bus safety. With the increased presence of school buses on our roads, it’s crucial that we all do our part to ensure the safety of our children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most critical aspects of school bus safety is stopping for red lights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s essential that all vehicles come to a complete stop when approaching a school bus with its red lights flashing. This simple act can save lives and prevent serious injuries. When a school bus stops to pick up or drop off children, it’s required by law to display its red lights. This is a signal to all other drivers to stop and not pass the bus. Failure to do so can result in serious consequences, including fines and even criminal charges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a community, we must work together to protect our children. Here are some important reminders: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

*When you see a school bus with its red lights flashing, come to a complete stop and remain stopped until the lights are turned off or the bus resumes motion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Never attempt to pass a school bus that is stopped to pick up or drop off children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Be aware of your surroundings and watch for children walking to or from school buses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Teach your children the importance of school bus safety and the rules of the road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By working together, we can ensure a safe and successful school year for all our children. Remember, stopping for red lights is not just a law, it’s a matter of life and death. Let’s make our roads safer for everyone<\/p>\n\n\n\n
