Valley Indivisible recently shared her family\u2019s story:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My daughter, \u201cElla,\u201d lives in Buffalo with her wife, \u201cMolly\u201d (issue #1), who is Indian (issue<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#2) and their 18 month old child, \u201cIngrid.\u201d They are scared. Both of them carry a passport or<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a green card and their marriage license all of the time. Ella and Molly have a list of lawyers<\/p>\n\n\n\n
on standby and have made contingency plans for Ingrid\u2019s care if either or both of them are<\/p>\n\n\n\n
detained. In addition, they have arranged to stay with Molly\u2019s cousins in Southeast Asia if<\/p>\n\n\n\n
they need to leave the United States. Ella feels betrayed by her country and her<\/p>\n\n\n\n
government. Molly is dismayed that this is happening in our \u201cfirst world democracy.” I pray<\/p>\n\n\n\n
that they remain safe and do not have to leave the the country. And, I will certainly be<\/p>\n\n\n\n
protesting on No Kings Day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect<\/p>\n\n\n\n
all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree<\/p>\n\n\n\n
with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those<\/p>\n\n\n\n
legally permitted, should not be brought to events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A war and a gold-plated ballroom, neither with Congressional authorization celebrate an inflated ego; trial balloons about an unconstitutional third term; Undermining voting integrity on the basis of election irregularities that have never been proven in court case after court case; Promoting our nation’s 250th Anniversary in ways that only a dictator could love; Changing government departments for personal gain as evidenced by appointment of leaders without expertise in these areas; Pardoning convicted criminals following massive business deals or donations to campaigns – These are the things we protest today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The No Kings Movement has been accused of over-dramatizing its case, but everything we have warned about has come true as democracy is being squeezed and squeezed until there will be nothing left. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s time to take a stand in every village and town. The basic tenets of democracy are evaporating before our eyes, but we who are participating in this No Kings event, one of thousands of such gatherings across the country, are hopeful, deeply committed, and not afraid to speak truth to power.
