The group currently has seven volunteers and is forming a new not-for-profit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Friends of the Ellicott Trail will kick off the initiative with a \u201cClean the Trail\u201d day on May 9th and is looking for volunteers to join the cause. Organizers will meet at 9 a.m. on that day at the Batavia Ice Rink and begin picking up trash and litter from parts of the trail. The group will provide attendees with gloves and trash bags supplied by the City of Batavia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are excited to form this group to help maintain and expand the trail. Ideally, we would be able expand the trail on the east, possibly making it as far as Le Roy\u201d, said Tom Lichtenthal, who was instrumental in construction of the trail which was a joint effort between the City and the Town of Batavia. \u201cIt is really a great community asset and is well used by our residents\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ellicott Trail officially opened in July of 2020. It consists of a 10 ft wide crushed stone multi-use recreational trail that was created on old railroad beds, sidewalks, bike lanes, and includes a route that runs through DeWitt Park.
