Information from a provided press release<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 6, 2026, at approximately 5:51PM, an Orleans County Sheriff\u2019s Lieutenant, James White, initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Ridge Road, in the Town of Ridgeway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the stop, the operator, identified as Dean E. Smith, 62, of Lockport, NY, displayed alleged signs of impairment. Further investigation revealed that two children, ages 6 and 10, were in the vehicle at the time of the stop.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered. Smith was subsequently taken into custody. Following a Drug Influence Evaluation, Smith was charged with the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Aggravated DWI with a Child Passenger Less than 16 (Leandra\u2019s Law) \u2013 Class E Felony<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs \u2013 Unclassified Misdemeanor<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Endangering the Welfare of a Child (2 Counts) \u2013 Class A Misdemeanor<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Move From Lane Unsafely \u2013 Traffic Infraction<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smith was transported to the Orleans County Jail for Centralized Arraignment (CAP) Court. Lt White was assisted by Deputy Michael Borrell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
