The event is the only box car derby in Genesee County this year and is open to residents throughout the county and the GLOW region.

Our local nonprofit organization, made up of family members and friends, was founded to host this annual event for children in Oakfield and neighboring communities. The derby encourages interest in STEM, introduces basic car-building skills, and gives participants the chance to assemble, customize, and race their own cars.

The event is held in memory of Suzanne “Sue” D’Alba, one of the founders of the Oakfield Betterment Committee and the Oakfield Labor Daze Festival, as well as a dedicated volunteer and member of many other civic organizations. She loved classic community events, and we believe this derby reflects that spirit.

We invite the community to join us for a family-friendly event that celebrates fun, competition, and sportsmanship. Prizes will be awarded to all participants. Registration information is provided below. Space is limited to 32 participants, and spots are filling quickly.

Registration is open from June 1, 2026, through July 10, 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis. The fee is $25 per child. The derby is open to boys and girls ages 7–13, with two divisions: ages 7–10 and 11–13.
