Sixteen fire companies responded to an apartment house fire at 8 East street in the Village of Gainesville on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apartment house went up in flames about 8:45a.m. and five tenants are being assisted by the Red Cross. One firefighter was injured while fighting the fire as they slipped on the ice, they were treated at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fire is believed to have started in a lower front apartment and is under investigation. The building was a total loss and an emergency demolition of the structure was completed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The owner of the building is Jeff Rase. the estimated loss is $150,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday morning fire crews were again called to the scene for a rekindle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire companies responding to the scene were Gainesville, Bliss, Castile, Pike, Silver Springs, Alexander, North Java, Perry, Perry Center, Warsaw, Strykersville, Arcade, Sheldon, Nunda, Wiscoy-Rosberg and Fillmore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also assisting on scene was Wyoming County Emergency Services, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, Wyoming Correctional,NYS DOT, Town of Gainesville, National Fuel, and NYSEG<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire crews were on scene for 7 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
