As a pet owner, you have a vital role to play in ensuring the safety and well-being of both humans and animals in our community. The City of Batavia Police Department is reminding all dog owners of the importance of responsible dog ownership and compliance with city codes and regulations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to City Code, all dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet in length when in public spaces, including parks, sidewalks, and streets. This is crucial in preventing dog bites, attacks, and other incidents that can put people and animals at risk. Failure to comply with leash laws and failing to prevent your dog from running-at-large can result in fines and penalties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to leash laws, the Vicious\/Dangerous Dogs Law (Agriculture & Markets Law) is in place to protect the community from dogs that have been deemed aggressive or dangerous. If your dog has been involved in an incident, it is essential to take immediate action to prevent future occurrences. This may include enrolling your dog in obedience training, ensuring proper fencing and enclosure, and taking other necessary measures to prevent escape and harm to other animals or humans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a responsible dog owner, it is your duty to: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep your dog on a leash in public spaces <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ensure your dog is properly licensed and vaccinated <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prevent your dog from roaming freely or escaping <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take immediate action if your dog is involved in an incident <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comply with all city codes and regulations as well as NYS Law regarding dog ownership <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By following these simple guidelines, you can help create a safer and more enjoyable environment for everyone in our community. Remember, responsible dog ownership is a key component of good stewardship and a critical aspect of being a responsible pet owner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
