WYOMING COUNTY/Warsaw man charged in Orangeville accident that caused vehicle to burst into flames

A two vehicle collision led to the arrest of Joseph T. Plotz, 57, of Warsaw, after he failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a two vehicle collision on State Route 20A at the intersection with State Route 238 in the Town of Orangeville.

Plotz was found to have been traveling south on State Route 238, and after stopping at the stop sign, Plotz pulled into the lane of an oncoming Ford F150 pickup truck which was traveling east.  The vehicles collided causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

A mother and two children, who had been the occupants of the Ford F150, were able to exit the pickup truck with the help of witnesses just before the pickup truck became fully engulfed by flames.  The mother and two children were taken to Wyoming County Community Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Plotz was taken to the Wyoming County Community Hospital with minor injuries.  There, Plotz underwent a drug influence evaluation by a NYS certified Drug Recognition Expert from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office.

Plotz was found to be impaired by multiple categories of drugs.  Plotz was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Ability Impaired by the Combined Influence of Drugs, and Failed to Yield Right of Way at Stop Sign.

Plotz was scheduled to answer the charges in the Town of Orangeville Court on November 15, 2017.

Assisting at the scene were: New York State Police, Warsaw Fire Department, Varysburg Fire Department, Monroe Ambulance, Ott’s Collision, Karson’s Towing.
