BATAVIA/Male found stabbed in the throat

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing that occurred about 9:30p.m. on Friday night in the Town of Batavia.

When deputies arrived in the parking lot of Batavia Downs they found a male who was stabbed in the throat and first aid was administered until Mercy Medics arrived on scene to transport the victim to ECMC for treatment of serious injuries.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation shows that the incident originally occurred behind the shopping plaza at 4140 Veterans Memorial Drive, near Yume Asian Bistro, and the male victim then made his way to the parking lot on Park road where a good Samaritan called for help.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the City of Batavia Police, the NYS Police, Mercy Medics and the security staff at Batavia Downs.

UPDATE: The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a suspect in Friday nights stabbing of a Buffalo resident that occurred in the rear of a shopping plaza, 4140 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, in Batavia. Jeffrey L. Barr, 18, no permanent address, was taken into custody by City of Batavia Police officer Lindsay at the corner of State Street and Washington Avenue about 8:30p.m. Saturday and turned over to the Sheriff’s Office. Barr is charged with attempted murder 2nd, a class B violent felony, and was arraigned in the Town of Batavia Court by Justice Williams. Barr was jailed without bail and is awaiting further court proceedings. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the victim is expected to survive at this point.

The motive for the crime remains unknown at this time.
