HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL/Batavia too much for St. Mary’s

The Batavia Blue Devils are officially tuned up for sectional play after a 69-20 trouncing of St. Mary’s on Friday night at Van Detta Stadium.

The game was close in the first few minutes of the 1st quarter with St Mary’s actually taking a 8-7 lead on an 85 yard kick return by D’Jae Perry.

That did not last long.

Chandler Baker tossed a 24 yard pass to Andrew Francis to make the score 14-8 with a few minutes left in the 1st quarter.

After that the Blue Devils played relentless football.

After sacking the St. Mary’s quarterback, Chandler Baker returned a punt 45 yards to make the score 20-8 with 2:42 left in the 1st quarter.

Then Ray Leach intercepted a pass with :52 seconds remaining in the 1st quarter and ran it 22 yards to the end zone. The Blue Devils were up by a score of 27-8.

In the second. Leach continued to score after another interception, this one by Alex Rood. Leach capitalized on the turnover, making the score 41-8.

Then with 3:38 left in the 2nd, Leach ran another one in for 17 yards to make it 48-8.

Leach scored a 6th TD with 1:48 left in the second and D’Jae Perry of St. Mary’s ran the ball in 75 yards in response, making the score at the half 56-14.

Batavia will host a sectional game next week, they will play either Wayne or HFL.
