BERGEN/Driver airlifted to hospital after two vehicle accident


A man was airlifted to Strong Hospital after a call for a serious injury accident in Bergen on Friday night.

A car headed west on Lyman road and failed to yield the right of way to a pick up truck headed north on on West Bergen road about 8:51p.m.

The male driver of the car was transported to Strong Hospital by Mercy Flight with a head injury. A male passenger was also transported to Strong Hospital by ground ambulance. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, both men were conscious and alert and were able to extricate themselves from the car.

The driver of the pick up was not injured.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the car will be ticketed for failure to yield the right away after going through a stop sign. Speed may have also been a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: Names released in accident report.

The driver of the car was Vitorrio J. Muoio, 18, of Bergen, his passenger was Andrew L. Konieczny, 19, of Bergen.

The pick-up truck, which was driving with it’s emergency lights activated, was being operated by James McKenzie Jr., 52, of Bergen, who was responding to another accident on Townline road at the time.

  1. Vito and Andy were responding to another accident as first responders. Which is why they they blew through the yield.
