BATAVIA/Fire at apartment complex displaces residents

A fire in a wall at building B at Batavia Meadows has displaced the residents of three apartments.

Kely Rhim had just left for work when he received a call from his two boys Kaezon and Kaedon who were at home at the time eating cereal and playing video games waiting for their Aunt to pick them up.

“They called and said, hey Dad the house is on fire, I came home went in the apartment and there was smoke everywhere, but couldn’t see no fire.”

The boys, ages 9 and 12, were able to get out of the apartment and then alerted others in the building.

The blaze immediately went to a two alarm response for manpower according to Town of Batavia Fire Chief Dan Coffey.

Coffey says fire crews worked to search out an active fire in the wall of a first floor apartment that spread to the second floor.

No one was injured and two pets, a dog and a cat, were rescued and are okay.

Code enforcement was requested and so was the Red Cross as 3 apartments are not habitable.
