BATAVIA/Overnight storm causes damage and power outages

A fast moving thunderstorm moved through the area about 3:00 a.m. this morning. Wind swept rains along with loud claps of thunder and plenty of lightning made for an eventful overnight for National Grid crews, Public Works employees and the Police.

Prospect avenue lost power when a large tree came down on electrical wires causing an outage that will last until 11a.m. Saturday.

There were also two other power outages on Bank and Denio and Chandler avenue.

City of Batavia Police blocked off roads until Public Works employees arrived to take care of the fallen trees. The underpass on Cedar street could not handle the amount of rainfall and filled with about 2 feet of water.

The storm made it’s way through Amherst, Akron, Batavia and Scottsville leaving people without power.
