WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Attica woman taken into custody and jailed after drug investigation/Arcade woman charged with welfare fraud

Following a five month long investigation into alleged drug sales in the Village of Attica, an Attica woman was taken into custody following the execution of a search warrant at her residence on Lincoln Avenue in the Village of Attica on September 7, 2017.

Kara Baker, 44, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

Members of the Wyoming County Drug Task Force, Village of Attica Police, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department and a New York State Police K-9 unit, converged on Baker’s residence at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Thursday.

During the search, officer’s discovered a large quantity of suspected cocaine, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. A child under the age of sixteen was located within the residence during the search, prompting the endangerment charge.

A slew of additional felony charges are imminent as Baker is accused of selling cocaine and other controlled substances out of her residence over the past five months.

Baker was committed to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

 

 

An Arcade woman is facing welfare fraud charges after she allegedly filed false documents with the Wyoming County Department of Social Services.

Summer Spencer, 37, is charged with welfare fraud 4th, a felony, and offering a false instrument to file 1st , a felony, after an investigation by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Social Services.

It is alleged that Spencer failed to report everyone who was living in the household.  By failing to report everyone in the household she collected $22,119 in county taxpayer benefits to which she was not entitled to.

Spencer is due in the Town of Warsaw Court on September 11, 2017.
