HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL/Batavia advances in sectionals after defeating Wayne

The Batavia Blue Devils came into the their first sectional game of the year flying.

On the first play of the game, Batavia’s Ray Leach was off to the races running the ball end to end for six points.

Three minutes later Leach made the score 13-0 with his second TD of the game.

Chandler Baker then returned a punt to make the score 20-0.

With 4:47 remaining, Wayne got on the board with a nice pass to Keyshawn Brown to make it 21-6.

With only a few ticks of the clock left, Wayne kicked a 42 yard field goal before the end of the half to cut Batavia’s lead to 21-10.

In the 3rd quarter, Wayne QB Grayson Zenelovic tossed a 74 yard pass to Steve Moretti-Ransom to bring the Eagles within 5 points of Batavia 21-16.

The Wayne QB then tossed a 30 yard pass to Keyshawn Brown to take a one point lead 22-21 with 2:20 left in the 3rd quarter. The Eagles attempted two points after the TD, but were unsuccessful.

Ray Leach responded with great run down to the 1 yard line that Chandler Baker scored on to make it 27-22 with 1:51 left in the 3rd quarter. The two point play showed some razzle dazzle and Batavia went up 29-22.

With 4:42 remaining in the 4th quarter, Wayne tossed a pass to to the end zone and that made the score 29-28. The Eagles went for 2 points but did not make it on a pass attempt to the end zone.

With 1:44 left in the game, Wayne had the ball in their own end and were attempting to pass their way down the field when Andrew Francis intercepted the ball and ran it through the offensive line to score a TD for the Blue Devils to make the final score 36-28.

Batavia will play Hornell next week.
