The ice rink at DeWitt Park is scheduled to open this Friday and this year there will be evening hours on Friday nights.
County Highway Superintendent Tim Hens says the goal is to have it open on Friday December 29, 2017.
“The wet snow and freezing rain on Saturday really goofed up the surface and with the blowing snow there is no way to resurface it,” says Hens. “We have to wait for the winds to die down and get some good ice on top. Once we get good ice, the normal hours will be 10-4 p.m.”
Hens says the rink will also have some evening hours this year and portable lighting has been added. “We are having Kiwanis operate the rink for extended hours on Fridays until 7:30 p.m.. If we could get more volunteer groups to do the same we could offer extended hours on other nights as well.”
