BATAVIA/Man in custody after domestic incident and house fire on Washington avenue

At approximately 8:54 A.M., the Batavia Police were dispatched to a domestic incident at 207 Washington Ave. upper apartment.

Upon arrival, Batavia Police Officers were met by, Eddie L. Miles Jr. Miles Jr., who barricaded himself and his girlfriend inside their apartment and threatened to shoot officers if they continued towards the residence.

A perimeter was established.

Residents on the immediate east and west of the house were evacuated. A reverse 911 call was requested for the remaining neighbors and businesses to shelter in place.

Through a broken front window officers observed smoke coming from the apartment. The City of Batavia Fire Department, and Mercy EMS were requested to stage in the area.

Officers were then able to make contact with the female. She was able to safely exit the apartment onto a second story roof. Officers used a neighbor’s ladder to retrieve the female from the roof. The female was removed from the scene and evaluated by Mercy EMS. She was transported to UMMC to be treated for her injuries, which did not appear to be life threatening.

Miles Jr. eventually exited the apartment onto the back roof and sat refusing to comply with police orders. Miles Jr. again threatened the use of a firearm towards Law Enforcement. After approximately 10 minutes, Miles Jr. walked down a ladder. Miles Jr. was taken into custody without incident. Miles Jr. was transported to UMMC to be evaluated for injuries sustained during the incident and subsequent fire.

This is currently an active investigation, charges are pending.
