NYS Police/Batavia woman charged in traffic stop in Albany area

Bethlehem, NY – On January 10, 2018, at approximately 9:38 p.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87, in the Town of Bethlehem for a speeding violation. During the interview of the driver, Johnoy O. Muschette, age 26, of Hartford, CT, for the traffic violation, probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants was established.
Muschette was found in possession of several forged personal checks.
The passenger Cassandra J. Newell, age 22, of Batavia, NY, was found in possession of approximately 833.3 grams of marihuana. Both Muschette and Newell were taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Albany, where they were subsequently charged with:
  • Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd degree; a Class D Felony (2 counts, Muschette only)
  • Vehicle and Traffic Violation (Muschette only)
  • Criminal Possession of Marihuana 2nd degree; a Class D Felony (1 count, Newell only)
  • Unlawful Possession of Marihuana; a Violation (1 count, Newell only)
Both Muschette and Newell were arraigned in the Town of Bethlehem Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail. Newell was held in lieu of $4500. Cash/Bond. Muschette is being held in lieu $5000. Cash/Bond. A return court date of January 16, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. has been set in the Town of Bethlehem Court.
