GENESEE COUNTY/Batavia/Sheriff’s Office investigating a homicide at motel

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that was discovered yesterday morning at 11:57a.m. when dispatchers received a call for an unresponsive woman in a room at a local motel located at 4056 West Main street road in the Town of Batavia.

Mercy Ambulance and Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and found a deceased woman.

The circumstances of her death are suspicious according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The scene was secured for processing and the Coroner was called and the woman was pronounced dead and was taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy and a cause of death determination.

The preliminary report from the Medical Examiner’s Office indicates the cause of death was a homicide, attributed to a sharp force trauma to the carotid artery.

The woman’s identity is known and efforts are under way to locate her next of kin for notification purposes.

A press conference will be held tomorrow morning with more information.
