The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the victim involved in a homicide at the Sunset Motel on Monday in the Town of Batavia.
At a Wednesday morning news conference, the Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Sherri Colleen Butler, 58. Deputies have been unable to locate next of kin and are hoping someone will come forward and identify Butler.
If anyone has any information on her family or the homicide they should call 585-343-5000 with information.
Butler has lived at the Sunset Motel since January 2014. Police are familiar with her and have responded in the past to calls at her motel room.
Deputies are also working with the Rochester Police Department as Butler does have some history there also.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Butler died from a puncture wound to the neck. Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and currently there is no one in custody and a weapon has not been recovered.
Butler was last seen late on Friday the 13th into Saturday April 14th.
The owners of the motel were suspicious when they had not heard from her for few days and found her body in her one room motel room. Investigators would not say where she was found in the room.
According to Chief Deputy Jerome Brewster, there was some movement in the room prior to her death and there was no forced entry into the room.
Investigators would not comment on if there was a robbery or sexual assault, but did confirm no drug paraphernalia was found in the room.
Police are encouraging those who live in the area and know Sherri Butler to cooperate with police and help out in the investigation.
The number to call if you have information is 585-343-5000.
The last time there was a homicide in Genesee County was December 2015 in LeRoy on Selden road.
