WYOMING COUNTY/Perry/NYSEG building suffers major damage in afternoon fire

The NYSEG building at 348 South Main street in the Village of Perry sustained major damage in an afternoon fire on Monday.

Fire crews from Perry, Perry Center, Silver Springs, Castile, Warsaw, Gainesville, Pike and Bliss all responded to the scene about 4:09p.m. with heavy smoke showing.

According to a witness, one person was in the building at the time and was able to get out. No one was injured.

The fire severely damaged the NYSEG Perry operation.

The building sustained major damage to the east end where all their equipment was located. A Dodge 4500 utility truck was lost along with an off road utility unit and a fork truck. Two service trucks were damaged in the fire as well as many tools and general stock that was in or near the building. The fire was stopped from spreading to the office area of the building.

The estimated loss is $1.5 million dollars and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire crews were on scene for about 5 1/2 hours.

Also assisting on scene, Wyoming County Emergency Services, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, Perry Police and NYSEG.
