Pavilion Fire responded to Rt. 63, just north of Starr road, for a tractor trailer that went off the north side of the road and overturned onto its side in a field about 7:10 on Tuesday evening.
According to Pavilion Fire, the truck took out a power pole and wires after it swerved to miss a deer.
Mercy Flight was called to the scene and the male driver, from Quebec, was transported to ECMC for head and neck injuries and possible internal injuries.
The driver, Hanna Saikaly, 47, was able to get himself out of the cab, but collapsed face down about 20 feet away from the cab in a field. Firefighter David Clor was the first to find the driver and was able to get him stabilized and talk him through the incident.
“He wanted me to go on Mercy Flight with him because we bonded a little bit together, he did not want me to leave his side, I told him I can’t fly on Mercy Flight, told him another guy named Dave would be taking care of him on Mercy Flight, he was still determined to get me to go,” says Clor.
The roadway was shut down for several hours while the tractor trailer was removed. There was also a power outage in the area.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
