GENESEE COUNTY/Quick stop by firefighters saves home on Wilcox road

The LeRoy Fire Department was called to a home on Wilcox road, off Circular Hill road, on Sunday morning about 6:30a.m.

When crews arrived on scene there was smoke coming from the roof of the home. The homeowner and her two dogs and a cat were already out of the house when the fire department arrived on scene.

According to LeRoy Fire Chief Tim Hogle, a second alarm was called in for water supply and manpower. The nearest hydrant was 1.5 miles away. Almost 1,000 feet of 5 inch hose had to be used to reach the home from Circular Hill road.

Hogle says the fire was contained to the bathroom and the attic. The rest of the home suffered smoke and water damage. The Red Cross was contacted for the homeowner. A possible electrical issue could be the cause of the fire.

Fire companies from Stafford, Pavilion, Bergen, City of Batavia, Caledonia/Mumford and York responded mutual aid.

The fire was reported out at 6:54a.m. and LeRoy Fire is back in service as of 9:20a.m.
