Four people from Batavia were rescued from the waters of Lake Ontario about 3 miles northwest of Point Breeze on Sunday afternoon.
According to Undersheriff Christopher Bourke, the rear structure of the boat gave way which allowed water to rush in and the motor fell off, the boat started taking on water. All four subjects put on life jackets and were able to get out of the boat. They called for help using a cell phone.
At the time, Marine 1, with Sgt. John Doyle and Deputy Jim DiFilipps was patrolling on a Homeland Security Detail on Lake Ontario and responded to the area to search for the four victims. While searching, the deputies noticed a pink umbrella in the water, one of the victims had the umbrella opened which helped in locating the group in the water.
Marine 2 then also responded with Deputy Manning and Deputy Larkin.
Marine 1 was able to hook up and tow the vessel to the State Boat Launch on Archibald road.
The four occupants of the boat were transported to shore.
