GENESEE COUNTY/Bethany/Williamsville man is dead after colliding with an ambulance

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred just before midnight on Saturday .

At 11:56p.m., Deputies and first responders from Bethany and Stafford responded to 5699 Ellicott street road for a car that collided with a Bethany Volunteer Ambulance.

According to Chief Deputy Joe Graff, the car was traveling north on Rt. 63 and crossed over into the southbound lane striking the ambulance which was just returning from a call.

The male driver of the car, Syed L. Rahman, 61, of Williamsville was pronounced dead at the scene and three volunteers with the ambulance, James L. Duval Jr., the driver, Christopher Page and Melody Davis, were transported to UMMC for an evaluation. There was no patient on board.

The Sheriff’s Department is looking into the cause of the accident. There was heavy rain in the area at the time of the crash.

The road was closed between Paul road and Bethany Center road for about 4 hours.
