ELBA/Woman seriously injured in Townline road accident

UPDATE:

After an investigation, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office has determined that the driver and sole occupant of the pick up truck, Julia A. Hawley, 41, of Coward Rd., Byron, left the roadway striking a tree stump. Hawley was transported to Strong Hospital via Mercy Flight for her injuries.

Hawley was allegedly impaired by drugs at the time of the accident and was place under arrest.

She is charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs, failure to keep right, and moving from a lane unsafely.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Andrew Mullen and Deputy Jenna Ferrando.

Also assisting at the scene were the Elba Fire Department, Mercy EMS and Mercy Flight.

Fire crews from Elba were called to a motor vehicle accident on Batavia Elba Townline road about 12:20 Thursday morning.

A pick up truck heading east on Townline road left the roadway and struck a mailbox and a tree, trapping the female driver.

Fire crews worked on extricating the female driver in her 30’s for almost an hour. She was reportedly semi conscious when she was found by a passerby who discovered the accident.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, it is unknown what time the accident occurred or how long the pick up was off the road before the passerby discovered it.

Mercy Flight transported the female driver and sole occupant of the pick up to Strong Hospital in Rochester.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the accident.
